System Requirements

If you are attending one of Fire Tech’s Remote Learning classes or In-Person camps, follow this documentation for a guide on what to expect, as well as the recommended system requirements to help set up your virtual classroom using your own device.

Internet Speeds

Computer Requirements

For most classes, a basic laptop from the last five years will be sufficient. You will need to have your own device in order to connect to our online learning platform. We recommend the following PCs are suitable.

  • MacOS
    • MacOs 10.13 or later
    • All intel based MacBooks and iMacs since 2017
    • 8GB RAM
    • Min 5GB available storage
  • Windows Device
    • Windows 7 or later
    • Using Intels i3 (i5 recommended) since 2015
    • 8GB RAM
    • Min 5GB storage space available


FOR online courses

In order to join Fire Tech’s online learning community, you will need to connect to Discourse. You will have received an email with a link to access this.

Alternatively, please check the ‘My account’ area and access the link there.

Internet requirements

15mbps connection or better is recommended.

You can test your settings using Which’s internet speed calculator for free here

For reference, if you can stream YouTube videos full screen without buffering and it looks good then you’re good to go!

Requirements for Specific Courses

For Making 3d games with Unreal Engine

  • Windows 7 or later
    • Intel i5 2015 or later
    • 8GB RAM
    • Dedicated 3D graphics card (capable of running DirectX 11 or 12)
  • MacOs 10.12 or later
    • Macbook or iMac with a dedicated GPU since 2015

For Ultimate Digital Graphics

You will need an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Students qualify for 65% off by choosing the Student and Teacher edition. The subscription is £16.24/month at time of writing and you can either cancel after the free trial period, after 1 month or continue the subscription if students are still creating with Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier and the other Adobe tools taught on our courses.

For Creating with YouTube it is recommended you use a computer that has an Nvidia or Radeon Graphics card and at least an i5 processor to be able to edit video.

For courses that use Minecraft

You will also need a license for Minecraft Java Edition which can be bought from here: Minecraft Java Edition

You will need a laptop or desktop computer capable of running Minecraft Java Edition. As long as the computer is able to run Minecraft it should be able to run the other tools too. The tools in this course will work with the Minecraft Java Edition only, this can be on Mac OS or Windows, they will not work with the Windows 10 Edition, Pocket Edition, Pi Edition or the various Console versions.



If you have a course coming up use the login details for the student that is going to attend, on the computer they will be using.
