Fire Tech Camp are pleased to announce a new residential option for the summer 2015 camp programme, taking place Sunday 26th July to Friday 31st July or Saturday 1st August 2015 (you can check out on Friday evening or Saturday morning).
The six-day intensive introduction to Games Programming with Java and Engineering with Robotics will have children and teenagers aged 12 to 17 experimenting and creating with new types of technology at the UK’s number one-ranked independent school, Wycombe Abbey (Buckinghamshire). The holiday camp seeks to provide young people with inspirational, high-quality and memorable experiences, bringing the Fire Tech Camp values of creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking to a new and exciting format.
Camp Background and Overview
Ever since launching the first Fire Tech Camps at the beginning of 2013, we have been asked about introducing a residential option. Getting all the right elements together – the location, timings, a top team of tutors, leisure activities and above all, the right mix of tech content – has been a demanding but rewarding task. We are confident that we have come up with a real treat for older children and teens, where they will feel engaged, inspired and challenged to solve problems, create prototypes and try out newfound digital skills.
The technology and computer science components involve a mix of coding, programming, design and engineering. We have taken parts of successful day-camps and workshops and adapted them to fit the residential format. On top of this, we have added some new mini options, such as designing a micro-blog, meaning that students can sample a wide variety of tech-related activities. As in all of Fire Tech Camp’s courses, students will have the freedom to take their projects in independent directions, according to their own interests and previous tech experiences.
It’s not just about intensive learning though; there will be plenty of opportunities to relax, socialise with other campers and take a break from sensors, screens and software, not least during a day trip to take in the sights of London!
An International Flavour
The location of Wycombe Abbey was chosen primarily for its top quality facilities, but it was also important that we chose somewhere easily accessible to campers coming from all over the place, including from other parts of the UK and from abroad. Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport are both within easy driving distance of the school and we are arranging airport transfers.
The mission of Fire Tech Camp includes widening access to tech, and was initially inspired by a thriving camp culture in the USA that was not available in other parts of the world. We have already had many international campers pass through our non-residential programmes, and we look forward to welcoming more at Wycombe Abbey this summer.
